Antique print of Vulpine Opossum for Governor Phillip. Originally incorrectly engraved as Wulpine Opossum, this is from the corrected second state of this engraved plate.

Original copperplate engraving by Peter Mazell after a drawing by Ann Latham (1772-1835), daughter of English ornithologist John Latham (1740-1837) for The Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay; with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island printed London circa 1789 by John Stockdale.  Arthur Phillip came to Australia as captain of the convict ship, HMS Sirius. The first Governor of the British penal colony at Port Jackson in Sydney, Arthur Phillip was appointed Captain General and Commander in Chief over the Territory of New South Wales.

Page measures 300 x 225 mm (11 3/4 x 9 inches). To plate-mark is 265 x 190mm (10 3/8 x 7 1/2 inches). Slight soiling above image.
