by Stone, Sarah

Antique print of Diamond Python and Hoop Snake.

Both non-venomous, the Diamond Python (Morelia spilota) is one of the most placid snakes in Australia. While it likes to bask in the sun (Who doesn't?) it is mostly nocturnal and feeds mainly on rats and mice. The Bandy Bandy or Hoop Snake (Vernicella annulata) is nocturnal, and feeds solely on Blind Snakes.

Rare original hand-coloured copperplate engraving after Sarah Stone for John White, keen amateur naturalist and Surgeon-General of the First Fleet and Settlement at Sydney in Australia. Published in London by J. Debrett circa 1789, for White's Journal of a Voyage to New South Wales.

This antique print is in good conditon, page size is 215 x 280 mm (8.5 x 11 inches)
