Wattled Bee Eater engraving for Gov. Phillip's Voyage

by Edwards, Sydenham

Rare antique print of Australian Wattle Bird c1789, engraved by fine Welsh natural history draughtsman and engraver, Sydenham Teast Edwards (1768-1819) after Ann Latham (1772-1835), daughter of English ornithologist John Latham (1740-1837).

Hand-coloured original copperplate engraving for “Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay; with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island” printed in London circa 1789 by John Stockdale.

This engraving has fine later hand-colour. There is slight nick in extremity of page mid-left, but the engraving is in marvellous condition considering its age.
Page size: 295mm x 220mm (11.5/8 x 8.7/8 inches). To plate mark: 260 x 190 (10.1/4 x 7.1/2 inches).
