Original hand-coloured lithograph by John Gould and Henry Constantine Richter for Gould's “Birds of Australia ” (the finest illustrations ever done of Australian Birds), published in London between 1840 and 1848 by 'The Bird Man', John Gould (1804-1881). John Gould was a brilliant ornithologist who devoted his life to the study of birds, Gould had a fine eye for detail and knew his limitations as an artist. Also an astute businessman, he obtained subcribers to underwrite the costs for his ambitious projects. Gould employed the finest lithographers of the day and closely monitored their work.

The digital photo does not do justice to this wonderful lithograph which is in good condition except for paper discolouration line from previous non-conservation framing mattboard. This will be masked by framing.  Size of page, as published, is 370 x 535mm (14.5 x 21 inches).
