First Edition PAIR. Tallis Eastern and Western Hemispheres, c1850

by Tallis, J. & F.

Beautifully coloured pair of antique maps. J.& F. Tallis Eastern Hemisphere and J. and F. Tallis Western Hemisphere. (This and next listing are sold together, so please PAY for ONE (1 listing) only!  They are shown separately for better detail.)
A stunning pair of Tallis Hemisphere antique maps with contemporary pen outlining of countries and states and pale wash along coastlines, with fine matching additional later colour to the wonderful decorative borders.

Undoubtedly the most decorative of all pairs of Hemisphere maps. This pair has Tallis distinctive style of presentation - a simple “cartouche” frame for the title, and a wide finely engraved decorative border with frames of vines, foliage and swirling lines enclosing small “vignettes” of important views, flora and fauna, and people in regional costumes from the regions of each map.

Antique maps of world hemispheres, in remarkably good condition, with beautiful museum-quality complimentary carved-mounts and backboard, - waiting for your choice of frame.

The central vertical fold accommodated smaller publication, with faint soiling down the crease and slight age discolouration around page edges as usual. Maps measure 267 x 362mm (10 1/2 x 14 1/4 inches).
