New Map of Ireland from the Best Authorities. Wilkinson Antique Map c1794

by Wilkinson, Robert

18th century map of Ireland by R. Wilkinson, c1794. A New Map of Ireland from the Best Authorities.

This map has beautiful hand-colour that really makes it very decorative as well as interesting.  Original copperplate-engraved map published circa 1794 for the first edition of "The General Atlas of the World" by Robert Wilkinson.

Wilkinson acquired the engraved plates of his maps from the estate of map publisher John Bowles. A well-respected mapmaker in London between 1768 and his death in 1825, Wilkinson achieved most renown by updating and reissuing the plates for this edition of his General Atlas, which he re-issued in 1802 and 1809.

This map is on good quality paper, is in good condition though the paper is slightly discoloured towards the edges, as is to be expected of a map that is this old, and there is a foxing spot or two which are not obtrusive because of the map's colour. It has good borders as published, and would be a great reminder of holidays in Europe! The size is 24 x 30cm (9.5 x 12 inches)
