This map has beautiful contemporary hand-colour that makes it very decorative as well as interesting. Original copperplate-engraved map published circa 1794 for the first edition of The General Atlas of the World by Robert Wilkinson.

Wilkinson updated and reissued plates from the estate of map publisher John Bowles who died in 1777. Wilkinson established his reputation with the fine quality of his maps for The General Atlas of the World, which Wilkinson updated and reissued in 1802 and 1810.

This is a fine map on good quality paper with wide margins. There is a little foxing and slight age discolouration. The size as published is 24 x 30cm (9.5 x 12 inches)
