Published for a small travel publication "The Land and the Book, Or, Biblical Illustrations Drawn from the Manners and Customs, the Scenes and Scenery of the Holy Land ", this wonderful engraved map has gold outlining of the regions and a light-coloured wash to the land.

William McClure Thomson (1806-1894) was a Presbyterian clergyman and missionary. Educated in the United States, he was sent on two tours of duty as a missionary to Syria and Palestine.

The page is 32 x 23cm (approximately 12.5 x 9 inches), and has vertical and horizontal creases to accommodate being folded into the small travel book which measured 175 x 85 mm (7 x 3.5 inches).

The map to its border measures 280 x 205 mm (11 x 8 inches).
