Lo Stato Veneto. Fine Venice antique map. Zatta, c1782.

by Zatta, Antonio

The State of Venice divided into her Provinces with a new projection. Lo Stato Veneto da Terra diviso Nelle sue Provincie di mova Projezione.

This is a superb and rare original copperplate-engraved map of Venice, drawn by G. Pitteri and engraved by G. Zuliani, for Atlante novissimo, illustrato ed accresciuto sulle osservazioni e scoperte fatte dai piu celebri e piu recenti cartografi (New Atlas...), by cartographer and publisher Antonio Zatta (1757-1797), with distinctive contemporary colour (from the time of publication). Atlante Novissimo was designed to accompany Nuova Geografia (New Geography), an Italian translation of the geographical treatise by A.F. Büsching.

Zatta was a Venetian publisher who specialized in Italian translations of successful books and atlases. This atlas was re-issued a number of times between 1775 and 1785. It was considered to be one of the finest and most comprehensive of all 18th century world atlases. This edition was published in Venice circa 1782.

Engraved on hand-made paper. In fine condition with good borders, as published, the measurement to the plate mark is 330 x 420 mm (13 x 16.5 inches).
