Europe Centrale par J.B. Poirson 1809. Central Europe.

by Poirson, Jean-Baptiste

Antique map of Central Europe by Jean-Baptiste Poirson, Drawn by Giraldon, Engraved by Tardieu, and published in 1809 by Pierre Lapie who was First Geographer to the King of France.

This finely engraved map is one of the most detailed that we have seen. It is on thick hand-made paper, and the base of the map extends almost to the edge of the page in the centre, with a summary of the 12 regions listed to each side of this extension of the map. There are 4 scales of measurement (at top right) and the map is embellished by a wreath surrounding the cartouche (title piece) at top left - setting the map off perfectly.

This map is in good condition and is further distinguished by later colour to the mountain ranges, outlining of the coast, and coloured wash to the Baltic Sea as well as to the map border. The page size is 250 x 340mm (9 7/8 x 13 3/8 inches).
