Campaniae, Samnii, Apuliae, Lucaniae, Brutiorum Vetus et Nova Defcriptio.

Original copperplate-engraved map of southern Italy with "New and Correct Descriptions" by John Senex for Joannis Nicholsoni. With new information and cartouche, this map has been enlarged circa 1711 from Introductio in Universam Geographicam (Introduction to Universal Geography), first published in 1624 by Philipp Cluver (1580-1622), and re-issued several times until 1755.

With a charming cartouche title piece, this engraved map measures 250 x 215mm, and has brief borders beyond this. Engraved on fine woven hand-made paper, this map has a vertical fold as is normal for the size of the publication for which it was made. It has at some time been hand-tinted with watercolour, and the lower left edge of the paper has been extended quite discreetly. The map is priced accordingly.
