Mappamondo o Carta Generale della Terra (General Chart of the Earth). First edition Italian map engraved by G. Caniani for Carlo Antonio Barbiellini. Milan, c1806 - with Australia shown as Nuova Olanda (New Holland).

Beautiful hand-coloured world map for Geografia Universale (Universal Geography) which Barbiellini published in Milan between 1802 and 1806. Barbiellini used the maps of Guthrie, Mentelle, Brun, Pinkerton, Busching, Galanti, Buache, Vaugondy and others, with map engravers Marco di Pietro, Saverio Chianal, Giuseppe Bonatti, the Bordiga brothers, G. Caniani, Bertolotti, and Boggi.

Rare map in good condition with central vertical fold as issued, and later colour in the style of Barbiellini's colouring for the atlas he issued the following year. This map is elegantly framed with a gold-toned silver frame with black sides.

Map size is 245 x 390mm (9 5/8 x 15 3/8 inches).
