Original copperplate engraving by Hubert Francois Bourguignon d’Anville Gravelot after a drawing by C. Frederick for Travels and Observations relating to several parts of Barbary and the Levant, published in London c.1738 by Thomas Shaw.

This rare engraving on hand-made paper has fine later hand-colour which suitably compliments and accentuates the detail of the decorative cartouche incorporating putti, and the large letter T within a classical frame surrounding an illustration of Atlas with the world sphere on his shoulders, with mountains behind him.

The text on front and reverse describes the geography and history of the region bordering Algiers, Tripoly, and the Mediterranean Sea.
