Seine Inferieure, Seine-Maritime Department France Antique Map. Lorrain c1836

by Lorrain, A.

Antique Map of Seine-Inferieure department, now known as Seine-Maritime, in the Haute-Normandie or Upper Normandy region. Seine Inferieure Carte Ancienne de Géographie de Département.

Original copperplate-engraved map of Lower Seine or Seine Maritime Department of France by A. Lorrain for Department Atlas La France et ses Colonies (France and her Colonies) published in Versailles circa 1836 by Andrieux and Barreswil.

The later hand-colouring of this county map of France, together with the decorative vignette of what was considered the most important landmark of the region, combine to make it one of the most elegant of the early 19th century maps of France.

The paper of this map was slightly stretched during printing. Otherwise the map is in relatively good condition with fine later hand-colour. The page measures 265 x 300mm (10 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches). To the intaglio impression (plate mark) measures 215 x 265mm (8 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches).
