by Walker, J. & C.

Gorgeous antique map of Paris and the surrounding region, around the River Seine. J. & C. Walker, c1844.

Engravers, draughtsmen and publishers, John, Alexander and Charles Walker, are usually known as J. & C. Walker. They flourished as engravers and publishers between 1820 and 1895, and published their “Royal Atlas” with several reissues. They also engraved many maps and charts for the British Admiralty. J & C Walker are best known for their work in conjunction with the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK), as with this map engraved on copper by J. & C. Walker and published with updates, circa 1844, by Charles Knight & Co. 22, Ludgate Street.

Map page size is 12.3/4 x 15.3/4 inches (325 x 400 mm) - with very little margin around the map border. There are a few tiny repairs to the edge of this map, and the price has been adjusted accordingly.
