Aude Department in Languedoc-Roussillon, antique map. Lorrain c1836

by Lorrain, A.

Antique map, Aude Department in Languedoc-Roussillon, by Lorrain c1836. The capital city is Carcassone. The small engraving is of the Cathedral of Narbonne.

Interesting original copperplate-engraved map by A. Lorrain for Atlas Departemental (Atlas of Departments) La France et ses Colonies (France and her Colonies) published in Versailles by Andrieux and Barreswil circa 1836 (with later hand-colour).

This is probably the prettiest map that we have seen of this region of France. Lorrain maps are well delineated with differentiation between the sizes of the towns and cities, and with additional information and Statistics at top left (in French).

The paper of this map was slightly stretched during printing. Otherwise the map is in relatively good condition with fine later hand-colour. The page measures 265 x 300mm (10 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches). To the intaglio impression (plate mark) measures 215 x 265mm (8 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches).
