Small composite of town plans for Rome, Athens, and Syracuse, and map of the vicinity of Rome, drawn and engraved by S. Hall for Butler’s Atlas of Ancient Geography published in London circa 1836 by Longman & Co.

Dr Samuel Butler (1774-1839) was bishop of Lichfield and Coventry when he wrote this book for school use. It was reissued many times. Sidney Hall flourished as a map engraver in London between 1817 and 1860.

This map has a central vertical fold, and is in fairly good condition with original light-coloured wash. Page measures 285 x 230 (9 x 11 3/8 inches). To map border measures 205 x 270mm (8.1/8 x 11.1/2).
