The Barrier Reefs by Captain F. Blackwood & the Officers of H.M. Surveying Ship Fly, 1843-5. Engraved by English cartographer and map engraver, Edward Weller (1819-1894). London, Published at the Admiralty, 4th July 1891, under the Superintendence of Captain W.J.L. Wharton R.N., F.R.S., Hydrographer. Large corrections Nov.1897, Oct.1900, Oct.1901, Aug.1902... and further additions to 1906 - with Soundings in Fathoms and Lights - F. Fixed, Fl.Flashing, Rev.Revolving, Alt.Alternating, Occ.Occulting. Heights are expressed in feet above High Water Springs. Magnetic Variation in 1891, nearly stationary. All Bearings are Magnetic.

At top right there is a rubber stamp impression "Alfred E. Sawtell, sole agent...Port Adelaide". Printed on thick heavy paper, there is slight print-offsetting at right, and the inevitable slight soiling of a used map of this age. Otherwise it is in very good condition, measuring 68cm x 1305cm (26 3/4 inches x 51 3/8 inches), with two vertical folds.
