An Accurate Map of the Empire of China by Geo. Rollos, geographer. Antique map of China with (Arabic) hours east from London. George Rollos. London, c1779.

With a decorative cartouche (title piece) and later fine hand-colour to the maps, border and cartouche, this is a beautiful antique map of CHINA, showing the hours East from London, in Arabic letters. Published in London for The Universal Traveller circa 1779. English geographer, George Rollos, flourished as a mapmaker in London between 1754 and 1789. He based many of his maps on early ones by eminent French cartographer, Robert de Vaugondy.

This map has fine later colour and is in good condition, with two vertical folds for a publication of a narrower size. The map to the border measures 265 x 340mm (approx. 10.5 x 13.3/8 inches). Page size is 33 x 46cm (13 x 18 inches). There is slight damage to the lower edge of the page - not intruding into the area of the map. Otherwise, the map is in fine condition with wide borders. The reduced price reflects the map's imperfections.
