Fine original copperplate-engraved map with contemporary hand-colour outlining the countries which have soft internal wash, as published in London for the 1809 edition of Robert Wilkinson's General Atlas of the World. 

Most of Wilkinson's maps were updates of the plates that previously belonged to English map publisher John Bowles. (Wilkinson acquired his library of engraved copperplates after Bowles died in 1779.) R. Wilkinson flourished as a map maker and atlas publisher between 1768 and 1825, and his popular atlas was reissued in 1802, 1809, and later until his death in 1825.

With slight age-discolouration (as is to be expected, considering it is over 220 years old), this map is in good condition except for the lower left extreme corner of page missing.
With wide margins, as published, to intaglio impression measures 240 mm x 305 mm (9 1/2 inches x 12 inches).
