South of the Dead Sea and Palestine. Map c1830.

by Crocker & Brewster

Antique map of Arabia and Mount Sinai c1832, showing Probable Route of the Israelites and Ancient Roman Road.

"Map of the Countries South of the Dead Sea and Palestine together with the Peninsula of Mount Sinai and a part of Egypt. Taken chiefly from the Map accompanying Burckhardt’s Travels, London 1882. – corrected by Ruppell’s chart, Frankfurt 1829 & by Ehrenberg’s Map, Berlin 1828. (with Burkhardt’s Route and Probably Route of the Israelites)

This is an interesting map of Arabia in ancient times, engraved by G. Boynton for Nathan Hale’s An Epitome of Universal Geography; Or, A Description of the Various Countries of the Globe: With a View of Their Political Condition at the Present Time, published c1830 by Crocker and Brewster, 47 Washington Street, Boston.

To border measures 230 x 363mm (9.25 x 10.25 inches). Unfortunately, this lovely little map was printed on rather fine paper (almost tissue) and has extremity damage from handling over the years. One previous repair (at right) not archival, but other reinforcements of slight edge tears have been done with archival tape.
