Improve your environment. Enjoy your artwork! Antique prints offer an enormous selection of subjects, styles and sizes... and work well in groups for added interest.
Artwork brings personality to your surroundings. Most houses are designed by architects - beyond the control of people who later live in them. Your pictures can change the mood of the surrounding area. And... it’s also much less effort and more fun than painting!
Most people live with at least one picture that they do not enjoy. If you really like the artwork around you, perhaps framing it differently will make you love it more. If you like the frame but not the artwork, find something else for inside the frame so that you love it. Frames can be cut down. Mounts (the support board surrounding the artwork) can be easily changed – perhaps to another colour or with a little decoration to set off the artwork. (If the frame is not the same shape, try putting a line around the 'window' on 3 sides of the artwork - or one side only - to 'highlight' the artwork. There is no right or wrong style of framing presentation. Just make sure it is framed so that you can enjoy it.

Shop around until you find a picture framer whose work you like, who you can talk to, and who listens to you. Take along a couple of pics from magazines or on your phone to show what style you like and if it is to hang in a special place, take a picture of the space, with measurements, or sketch the space and furniture, and include other artwork if any nearby, so that the frames don't detract from each other. If you want your artwork to continue looking good over the years, pay the extra to have it framed with conservation material so that the framing materials do not damage the artwork, and the whole remains looking as good as when done. U/V glass is also available to block ultraviolet rays and protect your artwork from fading, and non-reflective glass for opposite windows.
Artwork establishes an environment as your own. It will be enjoyed most if it reflects the style and/or interests of those who live or work there. Most houses are designed by architects with little or no input from the people who later live in them. Let the artwork on the wall add to the ambience. Changing your pictures can change the whole mood of an area. It’s also much less effort and more fun than painting!
Most people live with at least one picture that they do not enjoy. If you chose the artwork because you liked it, you could find that having it framed differently will make you love it all over again. If you like the frame, perhaps it might be better on something else. Frames can be cut down, and mounts (the board surrounding the artwork) can be easily changed – perhaps to another colour or with fine decoration to set off the artwork. There is no right or wrong style of framing presentation. Just make sure it is framed so that you can enjoy it.

The importance of artwork cannot be overestimated. Surround yourself with things you enjoy. The easiest way for an artwork makeover is to take your pictures off the wall. Place them around the house on the floor against the wall - or on furniture, Or spread on a bed or table. This is also the best way to work out the spacing.
Hang the pictures you like best where you can enjoy them the most. In order, continue around your home or office, hanging in order of preference until you come to any you are unsure of, or know you do not like.
While all styles of art can be hung in groups, try them in different combinations or posititons. They will look quite different, so can be enjoyed afresh. Consider trying them in different rooms from previously. Don’t be overwhelmed by trying to make all your decisions at once. Walk away from them. Reconsider them later - even next week, when in a different frame of mind.
Tryouts on the floor are much easier than moving after hanging (particularly for group-hanging with different sizes). If you are a perfectionist you could try cutting paper to the frame sizes and finesse the wall layout with blue tak. If you find grouping or hanging difficult, there are some very good professional picture hangers: ask local art dealers and picture framers for recommendations. (I suggest that you first work out where you would like them hung. Rehanging your artwork could seem daunting, but it is worth the angst for the joy the re-hang will bring. Not only will you notice and enjoy them afresh, your rooms will look better.

If you do not intend to keep artwork for more than a couple of years, there are many prints that look good without being expensive. Heritage Editions reproduction prints and maps are available online from $10 to $100. (If framed with U/V glass they will stay pristine forever.) Even antique maps and prints can cost as little as $20... or thousands of dollars.

Before discarding previous artwork, have a good look at the framing. Perhaps you could find alternative artwork for a frame you love. Take it with you on your search. It is easier for you, the art seller, and the picture framer, to make a good decision – and save you a lot of money in the process. If you are selling a property and potential buyers like your artwork, you can always use the artwork as a buying incentive: include the artwork in the price. You can have the fun of finding new pictures when you move!
