Afrique Moderne. Antique Map of 'Moderne Africa' c1684.
 
Original copperplate-engraved map published in Frankfurt c1686 for the first "modern" book of geography "Description de l'Univers" (Description of the Universe) originally published in Paris circa 1683 by Parisian engineer and cartographer Allain Manessson Mallet (1630-1706).

 The map was scanned through glass so does not show its full colour. It has full borders and is in good condition for its age. Although it would have been published in black and white, the hand-tinting with watercolour is complimentary to the style and period of the map, and certainly enhances its appearance.
