Antique Road Map. London to Wells, Newmarket to Bury St Edmund. Senex-Ogilby c1759

Sold

by Ogilby - Senex

Senex antique road map c1759, after Ogilby: The Roads from London to Wells in Norfolk and St Edmunds Bury in Suffolk, the first commencing at Newmarket.

This road map is an original copperplate engraving by John Senex, using the engraved plates of Ogilby. Published by J. Bowles & Sons of London for the pocket edition of 'The Roads through England Delineated, or Ogilby’s Survey, Revised, Improved & Reduced to a Size Portable for the Pocket'.

It’s a very decorative and informative little map.  Believe it or not these maps were actually used to travel the roads of England. The bonus with this map is that there is another on the reverse side: Part of the Road from London to Weymouth, - so you get two for the price of one.

The approximate size of this map is 17 x 22cm (6 x 8.5 inches).
