One of the earliest decorative maps with the correct state borders of Australia. This map shows the division of Queensland from New South Wales (following separation in 1859), but it does not list any counties for the new state of Queensland.
Antique Map of Colton's Australia published by J.H. Colton - 172 William St. New York. Well-delineated and hand-coloured by watercolour at the time of publication, with the usual decorative borders. In the early 1850s Joseph’s sons George Woolworth Colton and Charles B. Colton headed the family firm. The fine engraving and decorative borders around each map became asignature of Colton presentation and assisted in establishing the Colton firm as the pre-eminent American cartographers of the day. Colton atlases were updated and re-issued many times. Map size approximately 36 x 43cm (14 x 17 inches). Price: $330.00 (AUD) inc GST |
