John Gould Strix Tenebriosus reproduction lithograph, published in 1982 and was limited to 500 copies The image is from the grandest series on Birds of Australia published in London between 1840 and 1848. The original image was drawn by John Gould and lithographed by Henry Richter. Known as the Bird Man John Gould spent a life time publishing his work. He was not only a brilliant ornithologist, but also an artist and a very successful businessman. Whilst most people have heard of John Gould quite a few would not know of his wife Elizabeth who in the early years transposed all of her husband's drawings, bringing to life birds and Australian animals that could hardly be imagined back in English where they were published.
