Classical Calendar panel. Month of SEPTEMBER under the Protection of Vulcan. In Roman religion, Vulcan was the god of fire and the forge. Chiefly a god of destructive fire, Vulcan was the god of volcanoes, but soon became the god of craftsmanship (particularly metalwork), as weapons for the gods and heroes were made at his forge below Mt Aetna. This is a reproduction from a finely detailed and engraved copperplate, the twelve panels depict ancient mythical gods who were assumed to be the protectors of each month. Originally published in Paris circa 1750. Size: 650cm x 210cm (25.5 x 8.5 inches). Price: $8.80 (AUD) inc GST |
