Classical Calendar Panels: Month of JULY under the Protection of Jupiter. In Roman mythology Jupiter (also called Jove) is king of all the gods. In Greek mythology he is called Zeus. Originally a sky deity associated with rain, thunder, lightning and agriculture, he became the supreme god, prime protector of the state, concerned with all aspects of life and justice in the world. Jupiter was the son of Saturn and Ops and the brother and husband of Juno. This is a reproduction from a finely detailed and engraved copperplate, the twelve panels depict ancient mythical gods who were assumed to be the protectors of each month.
