Though there are many other great goddesses associated with love, Venus reigns as the supreme (Roman) goddess of love, (known in Greek mythology as Aphrodite). Venus was born of the sea and the sky. It is the goddess Venus who inspires people to love one another and to celebrate the rites of marriage. She is also associated with the rites of spring and Fertility.

This is a reproduction from a finely detailed and engraved copperplate, the twelve panels depict ancient mythical gods who were assumed to be the protectors of each month. Originally published in Paris circa 1750.
