Faience plate decorated in four colours "Assiette Polychrome" (Many-coloured Plate)
Original colour-printed lithograph by Ris-Paquot for"Histoire des Faiences de Rouen" (History of Faience from Rouen),illustrating the finest of Faience Porcelain, published in Paris circa1870 by Eugene Delaroque. Faience was the first soft porcelaincreated in Europe early in the 18th century by Louis Poterat, sieur deSaint-Etienne, a potter of Rouen in France. This beautiful softcoloured, warm milky white translucent earthenware, was traditionallydecorated by foliated patterns and floral designs of French style, ordesigns in imitation of the old Chinese and Japanese porcelain.
