L'Utile Recommendation (Useful Recommendation. Come to the table?) Dinner gown by Cheruit. Artist: Pierre Brissaud, 1912. Original pochoir (French for stencil), coloured by gouache and watercolour, with different stencils of zinc for each colour. Published in Paris circa 1912 for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Journal of Good Style), illustrating the latest superior styles. Original pochoir by the finest illustrators of the day, showing fashions by prominent French designers, for Gazette du Bon Ton (the periodical for the well-to-do), published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I) and distributed by Condé Nast. Distributed in the U.S. as Gazette du Bon Genre, both titles translate roughly as Journal of the Good Style. Using the distinctive pochoir style, the latest fashions are worn, and are frequently shown in appropriate settings, sometimes with others also stylishly attired. The grouping, gestures and expressions all provide a narrative of the situation, often with discreet symbolism added for emphasis! Size of page 24 x 19cm or 9.1/2" x 7.1/2" Price: $242.00 (AUD) inc GST |
