Apparently acceptable distraction in 18th century fencing!
Original copperplate engraving by Hall after a drawing by James Gwin (1700-1769) for the renowned fencing manual L'Ecole des Armes circa 1763. Published for Domenico Angelo who arrived in London from Italy via Paris and taught Equitation and Fencing. This engraving is part of a pair, plate 46 shows the outcome of this duel!!
