Original
sepia mezzotint engraved by Richard Earlom (1743-1822) after a drawing by the noted
artist Claude le Lorrain. Published in London circa 1774 by John
Boydell. Earlom undoubtedly attained his prominent position in the art world
from his fine copperplate engravings of two hundred plates after the drawings
begun in 1636 for Liber Veritatis by Claude le Lorrain (1600-1682).
Claude de Lorrain's family name was Gellee. He was born in the region of Lorrain in France (1600-1682) but spent most of his life in Italy, where he was a pupil of Italian artist/engraver, Giovanni Battista Cipriani. His idyllic scenes, whether of landscapes or maritime views are easily recognizable and always popular. Image size is 195 x 260mm (7.5/8 x 10.1/8 inches). Price: $330.00 (AUD) inc GST |
