Norfolk Island was discovered by Captain Cook in 1774.
The settlement of the new colony at Sydney Bay on the south end of the island, six weeks after the First Fleet's settlement at Port Jackson, is shown on this map. Norfolk is at the northern end of the island (on the right) and the islands of Phillip and Nepean appear to the left. The coastline shown is from Second Sands in the north to Bloody Bridge in the south. Fine original copperplate-engraved map for "The Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay; with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson & Norfolk Island" published in London circa 1789 by John Stockdale (with later hand-tinting with watercolour). Image size is 175mm x 425mm (approximately 7 inches x 16.3/4 inches). Slight diagonal fold across top left corner of map and two vertical folds to accommodate inclusion in the size of the publication. As the map is wide, it is difficult to provide a full scan for this listing. If you would like further pictures, please email sales@antiqueprintclub.com Price: $660.00 (AUD) inc GST |
