Tippoo Sultan, the "Tiger of Mysore" (1750(?)-1799) was a scholar, poet, and soldier from the age of 15. He became de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in 1783, following the death of his father a military officer who had ruled from 1761. This is a beautiful original copperplate-engraved map with contemporary outlining of provinces and fine hand-tinting with watercolour by T. Foot, for “A General Atlas, being a Collection of Maps of the World and Quarters, the Principal Empires, Kingdoms Ec. With their several Provinces, & other Subdivisions, Correctly Delineated.” published in London in 1794 by Robert Wilkinson of No. 58 Cornhill.
