Fitzgerald print of Microtis Orchids.
Rare reproduction from the hand-coloured lithograph “from Nature and on Stone by RD Fitzgerald FLS", the eminent botanist Robert David Fitzgerald (who was also O.B.E., F.I.S.A. )(1830-1892) for “Orchids of Australia” Printed at the Surveyor General's Office in Sydney, N.S.W. between 1875 and 1894. This print is in fine condition, with wonderfully detailed dissections of the flowers. It is one of the few that were both drawn and lithographed by Fitzgerald himself. The page size is 470mm x 320mm (18.1/2 inches x 12.1/2 inches), full size as published in 1977 for the Limited Edition of 350 by Lansdowne. This edition so closely resembles the first edition in quality, that it is hard to discern the difference. We have a number of other orchids from this series.
