Fitzgerald’s Australian Orchids with wonderful dissections of flowers.
Rare reproduction from the hand-coloured lithograph “from Nature and on Stone by RD Fitzgerald FLS", the eminent botanist Robert David Fitzgerald (who was also O.B.E., F.I.S.A. )(1830-1892) for “Orchids of Australia” originally Printed at the Surveyor General's Office in Sydney, N.S.W. between 1875 and 1894. The delicacy of the lithographic process is exquisitely shown with some of the flower and foliage left uncoloured. The print is in fine condition. It is one of the few that were both drawn and lithographed by Fitzgerald himself. We have a number of other orchids from this series.
