Plate 55 of a set of three shell prints, reproductions from hand-coloured copperplate engravings for "A History of the Earth and Animated Nature" by Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774), published circa 1774 by A, Fullerton & Co of Edinburgh and London. The ongoing popularity of this work was attributable to the fine stylised hand coloured illustrations. These decorative prints are of beautiful groups of shells in tones of brown, pink and mauve on a fawn background.
