One of a set of four small colourful fish: Anchor-Tooth Reproduction of a very pretty fish, from original hand-coloured copperplate engravings drawn and engraved by J.F. Hennig for “Icthyologie, ou Histoire Naturelle Generale et Particulere des Poissons” (Icthyology, or General and Specific Natural History of Fish") published in Germany between 1785 and 1797 by Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723-1799).Considered to be one of the finest works ever published on fish, the detail on the original engravings was quite remarkable, with some scales highlighted in gold and silver leaf.
