Reproduction of a superbly decorative double-hemisphere map
circa 1696 by Alexis Hubert Jaillot (1632?-1712), who re-engraved, enlarged
& re-published the maps of historian Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667). The great age of French cartography began with the maps of Sanson, but credit must also go to Alexandre Jaillot and Pierre Duval for re-engraving Sanson’s maps as many had not been printed prior to his death, and for re-publishing them despite strong competition from the Dutch who continued to dominate the field of map-making until the end of the century. This fine quality reproduction is from a small print run done in 1981.Size of map is 25 x 36 inches or 64 x 91cm Price: $88.00 (AUD) inc GST |
