Reproduction from a copperplate engraving by Bernard Picart (1673-1733), for 'Proper Horsemanship', L’art de monte a cheval ou description du manege moderne dans sa perfection (The art of mounting a horse or description of perfect modern management), by Friedrich Wilhelm, Baron Rais d’Eisenberg (c.1700-c.1770), originally published in Amsterdam c.1759.

Baron Reis d'Eisenberg was a renowned horseman, and riding master to the Court of the Hapsburgs. He was an amateur artist who wrote and illustrated the work with fifty-five illustrations of school movements, - commissioned by the Tenth Earl of Pembroke. The original drawings now hang at Wilton House, England.
