50%-off Cherubs on Chariots, Pair of Heritage Editions prints

by Vanni, Niccolo

Genie of Apollo & Love Triumphant, pair of delightful little prints, reproduced from early mezzotint engravings of frescoes from an important 18th century archaeological work, documenting antiquities excavated at Pompeii, Ercolano (Herculaneum) and Stabiae. Originally published in Naples between 1757 and 1792 with the patronage of King Charles II.

Putti and cherubs featured frequently in classical decorative arts in the early centuries. A pair of mythical winged beasts pull a chariot driven by a winged cherub who is the Genie of Apollo, and one small winged cherub rides one of the beasts pulling a festively decorated chariot with cupid accompanied by a lion alongside.

Each of these two images measures approximately 13 x 19 cm (5 x 7.5 inches). They look great whether framed individually and hung together - or framed together in one frame.
