Filippo Arena Lilies. Tab 32 Lilium botanical print from 18th century engraving.

Reproduced to cater for the growing demand in decorative botanical works, this image, one of a set of four was published in 1982 from a copperplate engraving originally published in Palermo, Italy circa 1768 by Filippo Arena. The sculptural definition of each flower by Mario Camareri compliments well Arena's dramatic composition of flowers. Arena emulated earlier botanists such as DeBry, Sweertius and Besler who had given flowers and plants a dramatic textured look.
