Based on a series of illustrated articles published in the North Queensland Register in 1977. Jim Manion's professional accounting background, and his time with the North Queensland Newspaper Company Limited in Townsville, have been the foundation for his meticulous research, and enabled him to separate folklore from fact in prodicing an extended history of the north Queensland region around Townsville, and the early development of mining interests in FNQ, as far north Queensland is known to locals.

The charming illustrations from watercolours by Sonia Davis, are mostly full page and in colour.
