Portrait of the 'Father of Classical Liberalism', English philosopher and physician John Locke (1632-1704), who was one of the most influential thinkers of the Enlightenment period.

Original fine steel engraving by H. Robinson from the original painting by Kneller, in the hall of Christ Church, Oxford. John Tallis & Company of London & New York were renowned for the quality of their illustrations which were usually embellished with further elaborately engraved borders. This portrait engraving has later fine hand-colour.
