by Prevost, Jean-Louis-Robert

North-West America Sea Urchins, Sponges antique print c1798.

Original copperplate engraving by Prevost for the Account of the Voyage of Jean-François Galaup-La Pérouse (1785-1788), published in London circa 1798 by G. G. Robinson of PaterNoster Row (with later hand-colour). Until his disappearance shortly after leaving the new British settlement at Botany Bay, La Perouse sent to Paris many reports, charts and drawings of the discoveries during his voyage.

Botanical artist on L'Astrolabe was Guillaume Prevost who was known during the voyage as "the uncle". His attribution appears as Prevost Senr. His 'very young' nephew Jean-Louis-Robert Prevost was illustrator aboard La Boussole.

To engraved border measures 320 x 210mm (approximately 12.5 x 8.25 inches). Page size is 435 x 270mm (approximately17.25 x 10.75 inches).
