Tropical Poissons (fish) for Histoire Naturelle des quadrupèdes, ovipares, serpents, poissons et cétacées by French statesman and naturalist, Bernard Germaine Etienne de la Ville, Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825). Lacepede completed and updated the enormous work on all kinds of nature by Georg-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788).

Fine original hand-coloured copperplate engraving by Davesne, published in Paris c1830.
Actual size of page is 220mm  x 140mm (6.3/8 x 5.1/2 inches). To the border line measures 162mm x 98mm (6.3/8" x 4.7/8 inches). The paper has some slight foxing marks that is common with an antique print that is nearly 200 years old.
