Fine lithograph of a Chimaera, seen in the water by the evening moon, was lithographed by The Reverend Pierre-Jacques Smit (1863-1960), and printed in colour by Frederick Warne and Company of London & New York, for The Royal Natural History, edited by Richard Lydekker B.A., F.G.S., F.Z.S., Etc. (sic.)

The Royal Natural History was the English publication of Brehm's Tierleben (Illustrated Life of Animals), first published in Leipzig between 1864 and 1869, and translated for English publication in 1894.
