During Mass, with Great Candle in the Chancel of Seville Cathedral, painted by David Roberts in 1834, and lithographed by W. Gauci in 1837 for David Roberts Picturesque Sketches in Spain. 

Born in Scotland and apprenticed to a house-painter and decorator, David Roberts, R.A. (1796-1842) studied art in the evenings. While designing and painting stage scenery in Edinburgh and London, be began painting landscapes, and exhibited at the Fine Arts Institution in Edinburtgh. In 1822 he exhibited at the British Institution and the Society of British Artists. As well as views of England and Scotland, Roberts painted in France and the Low Countries. By 1829 he was a full-time artist, and in 1831 was elected president of the Society of British artists. In 1832 he travelled to Spain and Tangiers, and as his paintings became popular, in 1837 he began producing lithographs of his work.

This is a beautiful large original lithograph, with the grandeur of the building emphasized by Roberts' skillful interpretation that shows his background as a painter of stage scenery. 

Approx. measurement 370 x 545mm (14.5/8 x 21.1/2 inches). The slight foxing on this work cannot detract from this superb scene.
