One of the loveliest engravings of this city, this is an original steel engraving by Albert Henry Payne (1812-1902), fromthe drawing by Bernhard. Published in London circa 1850.

Born in London, A.H. Payne was an engraver, artist and illustrator, who acquired a reputation for fine architectural landscapes. He moved to Leipzig in 1838, became a citizen of the city in 1845, and set up a publishing house Englische Kunstanstalte, working as artist, engraver and publisher in Dresden and Leipzig.
